Cadets of the JROTC Wildcat Battalion of Fall Mountain Regional High School traveled to France this summer to take part in the 70 Year D-Day Anniversary, the commemoration of the start of the invasion of the Allied Forces to liberate Europe from German occupation during World War II.
On Thursday, June 5, the Fall Mountain cadets attended a ceremony at the American Brittany Cemetery in Saint James, France. It was their first time at a WW II cemetery.
On May 7, 2014, the JROTC unit of Fall Mountain, their teachers and I were invited to visit the State of New Hampshire House of Representatives. At the opening of the Session at the State House in Concord that day, an Honor Guard of the cadets presented the Colors and they were mentioned and honored to be chosen to represent New Hampshire during the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 2014.
The Eagle Times is a daily newspaper based in Claremont, New Hampshire, serving the twin states of New Hampshire and Vermont. It published an article about the upcoming D-Day Normandy trip of the Fall Mountain JROTC and the book Cadets. Cadets is prominently featured on LENSCRATCH, a daily online journal that explores contemporary photography. Created in 2007, founder and editor Aline Smithson set a goal of writing about a different photographer each day, presenting work in a way that allows for a deeper understanding of a photographer’s intent and vision. Check it our here: http://lenscratch.com/2014/03/ellen-kok-cadets/ and don’t hesitate to explore Lenscratch. There is a lot of great photography work to enjoy over there.
The Walpole Clarion, a monthly published in Walpole, NH, devoted an article to the upcoming D-Day trip of cadets of Fall Mountain Regional High School. Fall Mountain’s JROTC got invited to represent the state of New Hampshire during the 70th D-Day Anniversary in Normandy, France in June 2014. The cadets will be marching in the D-Day parade on June 6 in the small French town of Sainte-Mère-Église, together with cadets from JROTCs from all U.S. states. The Walpole Clarion’s article also highlights the book “Cadets”.
Publisher Direct is a new service introduced by the renowned photo bookstore photo-eye in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It allows photographers and publishers to include their books in photo-eye’s photo book database. Publisher Direct is limited to books that are important to photo-eye's art market and is by invitation only. Orders go directly to the photographer or publisher and photo-eye does not receive any part of the sale.
“Cadets” got invited to join this new service and was featured on photo-eye’s website with this little write-up:
There are many small weekly or monthly publications in the five towns that are part of the Fall Mountain Regional School District. Most of those are put together by dedicated volunteers who gather all kinds of local news. These newspapers are free and very well read by the citizens of the towns. Our Town is a monthly publication that is published in Charlestown, NH. It is printed the old fashioned way: in black and white on paper, which still has a lot of charm. Look up close and you can see that the photos are build up of tiny ink dots.
